The Biggest Absurdity of Chinese-Style Weddings

The biggest absurdity of Chinese-style weddings is that many guests have only food in their eyes. They are not really there to bless the marriage.

The newlyweds spend a huge amount of money to perform self-moved emotion, create video records, and complete the ultimate pursuit of “ceremonial feeling.” But for many people under the stage, the real concern is not the relationship or the promise behind it. It is whether the dishes are good, whether the alcohol is decent, and whether the red envelope was worth it.

The most ironic part is that the roles of “audience” and “actor” keep changing.

Today, this group of people are guests. They coldly “watch” someone else’s wedding, and the only thing they care about is the food.

Tomorrow, the same group of people hold their own wedding. They throw themselves into playing the “once in a lifetime” protagonist and expect everyone else to pay attention.

And yesterday’s newlyweds become the indifferent audience under the stage, caring only about the dishes.

The essence of a Chinese-style wedding is this:

Everyone pays out of pocket to perform a grand “once in a lifetime” solo show, then invites a group of people who only care about the food to come watch and laugh.

Then everyone takes turns going onstage, and everyone takes turns watching the show.
